Cookie Policy
OVERVIEW
We use cookies and tags on our website, which amongst other things, help us to improve your experience of our website and to ensure that it performs as you expect it to. This is very common with websites, as they help us not only personalise your experience, but also allow the website to function.
Cookies and tags are text files containing small amounts of information, which are downloaded to your computer or mobile device by websites that you visit. They can improve your experience of using a website, for example, by remembering your preference settings, products you have looked at before and tracking your use of a website so that it can be improved to meet your needs.
Websites that operate within the EU must get consent to send cookies and tags to your computer or mobile device unless the cookies or tags are strictly necessary to provide services to you.
You can set your cookie and tag preferences when you arrive at our website. Unless the cookie is a strictly necessary cookie, you can withdraw your consent to our cookies at any time even if you have previously consented.
The table below explains what cookies and tags we use on our website, why we use them and whether they are strictly necessary or another type of cookie/tag e.g. “functionality” or “performance” cookies/tags. We also state in the table whether a cookie/tag is a “persistent” or “session” cookie. The difference is that:
- Persistent cookies/tags remain on your device between browsing sessions. They are activated each time you visit the website that created that particular cookie/tag. For example, where a “persistent cookie/tag” is used on a website to remember your log-in details, you will not need to enter those details each time you visit that website.
- Session cookies/tags allow website operators to link the actions of a user during a browser session. A browser session starts when you open the browser window and finishes when you close the browser window. Session cookies/tags are created temporarily. Once you close the browser, all session cookies/tags are deleted.
STRICTLY NECESSARYN
Strictly necessary cookies/tags are essential to enable you to receive a service on a website. For example, cookies/tags to operate online shopping baskets or to comply with the law (e.g. such as to keep your information safe). We would not be able to operate our website without using the “strictly necessary” cookies/tags listed below.
PERFORMANCE
Performance cookies/tags collect information about how visitors use a website, for instance, which pages visitors go to most often and if they get error messages from web pages. These cookies/tags do not collect information that identifies a visitor. We only use such information to improve our website and gain insights as to how it is being used i.e. popularity of specific content.
THIRD PARTY AND ADVERTISING COOKIES
The Printers does not display third party advertising. We use social media pixels and cookies from the following third parties to display relevant content from The Printers to you on your preferred channel:
Third Party and Advertising Cookies
We use Facebook social plugins and pixels on the basis of our legitimate interests (i.e. interest in the analysis, optimisation and economic operation of our online offer within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f. GDPR) Social Plugins (“Plugins”) of the social network facebook.com, which is operated by Facebook Ireland Ltd., 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2, Ireland (“Facebook”). The plugins can display interaction elements or content (e.g. videos, graphics or text contributions) and can be recognised by one of the Facebook logos.
Facebook is certified under the Privacy Shield Agreement and thus offers a guarantee to comply with European data protection law.
If a user gives their consent for setting the pixel and cookie or calls up a function of this online offer that contains such a plugin, that’s cookies are not controlled by us based on its functionality, their device establishes a direct connection with the Facebook servers.
The content of the plugin is transmitted by Facebook directly to the user’s device and integrated into the online offer by the user. User profiles can be created from the processed data. We therefore have no influence on the scope of the data that Facebook collects with the help of this plugin.
By using the plugins or accepting the pixel cookie, Facebook receives the information that a user has called up the corresponding page of the online offer. If the user is logged in to Facebook, Facebook can assign the visit to their Facebook account. If users interact with the plugins, for example, by pressing the Like button or sending a message through chat, the corresponding information is transmitted directly from your device to Facebook and stored there. If a user is not a member of Facebook, it is still possible for Facebook to find out their IP address and store it. According to Facebook, however, only an anonymised IP address is stored for countries where GDPR is applicable.
The purpose and scope of data collection and the further processing and use of data by Facebook, as well as the relevant rights and settings options to protect the privacy of users, can be found in the privacy policy of Facebook.
If a user is a Facebook member and does not want Facebook to collect data about them via this online offer and link it to their membership data stored on Facebook, they must log out of Facebook and delete their cookies and disallow cookies before using our online offer. Further settings and objections to the use of data for advertising purposes, are possible within the Facebook profile settings or via the US-American page or the EU page. The settings are platform-independent, i.e. they are adopted for all devices (desktop or mobile).
Facebook custom audiences and Facebook marketing services
Within our online offer, due to our legitimate interests in the analysis, optimisation and economic operation of our online offer and for these purposes, the so-called “Facebook pixel” of the social network Facebook, which is operated by Facebook Inc, 1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA, or if you are located in the EU, Facebook Ireland Ltd, 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2, Ireland, is used.
Facebook is certified under the Privacy Shield Agreement and thus offers a guarantee to comply with European data protection law.
With the help of the Facebook pixel, Facebook is on the one hand able to determine the visitors of our online offer as a target group for the presentation of ads (so-called “Facebook ads”). Accordingly, we use the Facebook Pixel in order to display the Facebook Ads placed by us only to those Facebook users who have also shown an interest in our online offering or who exhibit certain characteristics (e.g. interests in certain topics or products determined on the basis of the websites visited) that we transmit to Facebook (so-called “custom audiences”). With the help of the Facebook pixel, we also want to ensure that our Facebook Ads correspond to the potential interest of users and do not appear to be annoying. With the help of the Facebook Pixel, we can also track the effectiveness of Facebook ads for statistical and market research purposes by seeing whether users have been redirected to our website after clicking on a Facebook ad (so-called “conversion”).
The Facebook pixel is integrated directly by Facebook when you call up our websites and can store a so-called cookie on your device. If you then log in to Facebook or visit our website when logged in to Facebook, the visit to our online offer will be noted in your profile. The data collected about you is anonymous to us, so we cannot draw conclusions about the identity of the user. However, the data is stored and processed by Facebook so that a connection to the respective user profile is possible and can be used by Facebook as well as for our own market research and advertising purposes. If we should transmit data to Facebook for comparison purposes, this data is encrypted locally in the browser and only then sent to Facebook via a secure https connection. This is done solely for the purpose of comparing the data with the data similarly encrypted by Facebook.
Furthermore, when using the Facebook pixel, we use the additional function “extended comparison”, whereby data for the formation of target groups (“custom audiences” or “look like audiences”) is transmitted to Facebook in encrypted form.
Further Notes
We also use the “Custom Audiences from File” procedure of the social network Facebook, Inc. In this case, the email addresses of the newsletter recipients are uploaded to Facebook. The upload process is encrypted. The upload is used solely to determine recipients of our Facebook ads. We want to ensure that the ads are only displayed to users who have an interest in our information and services.
The processing of data by Facebook is carried out within the framework of Facebook’s Data Use Policy. Specific information and details about the Facebook pixel and how it works can be found in the Facebook help section.
You can object to the collection by the Facebook pixel and use of your data to display Facebook ads. To control what types of ads are displayed to you within Facebook, you can go to the page set up by Facebook and follow the instructions on usage-based advertising settings. The settings are platform-independent (desktop or mobile).
You may also opt-out of the use of cookies for audience measurement and advertising purposes by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page and additionally the US website or the European website.
Within our online offer, functions and contents of the service Instagram, offered by Instagram Inc, 1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA, 94025, USA, can be integrated.
This may include, for example, content such as images, videos, or text and buttons that allow you to express your favourites regarding the content, the authors of the content, or subscribe to our posts. If you are a member of the Instagram platform, Instagram may associate the above content and features with your profile.
For more information on how Instagram handles user data, please read Instagram’s privacy policy.
Instagram is used in the interest of an attractive presentation of our online services and to make it easy to find the locations we have indicated on the website. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of GDPR.
